Claude-Alain Gailland draws his energy from the mountains and their rivers and lakes which nourish life. He is a man of the land and is passionate and eager to discover life. He does not hesitate to explore various elements of the earth and is always looking for new adventures.
Claude -Alain is a mountain and canyoning guide who runs his own tour company. From the age of 23, with his national guide license, he did not hesitate to follow world renowned adventurer Mike Horn on his expedition to the Amazon in 1996. Since then, many expeditions have followed. Such as the full descent of the Rhone River in hydrospeed, opening a new way through the Himalayas and the exploration of various peaks in the world. Not to mention, "Latitude 0”, again with Mike Horn. Claude-Alain explored the Himalayas at over 8,000 m elevation on the slopes of Mount Everest over a dozen times. His greatest expedition to date remains "The Valais Edge" or around Valais, Switzerland along its border. A total of 640km of border and more than 330 peaks climbed.
Since 2001 he has been the guide in charge of the “Xtreme” competition in Verbier and certain stages of the "Freeride World Tour”.
Claude-Alain is also passionate about bicycling. He discovered the challenges of ultra-endurance cycling in 2010. In his first race of 300km he placed 9th. Following this event was the tour of Mt Blanc (330km and 8000m elevation in 16h50min) and then, around the Tour of Mt Rose (440km and 5500m elevation in 22h) . Claude-Alain is now a proud RAAM finisher completing the 2014 edition with a 4 man team in 7th place in only 6 days 14 hours 53 minutes!
Claude-Alain will not be racing in 2015 so he can spend time with his family. This is not the end of RAAM for this amazing athlete, we are certain he will be back in the future :-)
